Welcoming A New Month – A Three Card Tarot or Oracle Card Spread

As June winds down and we look forward to July which is right around the corner, I thought I would share with you a Tarot/Oracle card spread for welcoming in a new month. You can use this spread to help you identify the lessons the universe has been serving up to you, and take a sneak peek at what the new month has in store. There is also a gratitude component as gratitude is really key for growth, happiness, and expansion.

This is a simple three card spread designed to be laid out and read from left to right. (I am using June into July since that is where we are right now, at the time of this writing, but this spread is designed to be used at any time of year!)

  1. What lesson can I take from my experiences in June?
  2. What is something wonderful I can anticipate in July?
  3. What is something I can be grateful for as we welcome a new month?

I’m including a short & sweet sample reading to help give you an idea of how this spread flows. The cards I am using for this sample reading are the Modern Spellcaster’s Tarot.

Nine of Wands, Empress, and Five of Wands cards from The Modern Spellcaster's Tarot

Nine of Wands, Empress, and Five of Wands cards from The Modern Spellcaster’s Tarot

  1. What lesson can I take from my experiences in June? Nine of Wands: The Nine of Wands serves as a reminder that any feelings of being trapped by your circumstances are only an illusion. In truth, you have all the tools you need to change your situation for the better, as long as you are willing to take a stand and do the work. In June, you learned not to fall into the trap of playing the blame game. You’ve learned that it’s more productive to take responsibility for where you are right now, and then you are better able to take inspired action steps toward where you’d rather be. This card also indicates the finding of one’s true inner strength, and the development of wisdom and self discipline gained through challenging experiences and adversity. Nine of Wands can also represent learning not to compromise your integrity and authenticity. This card can often point to a long term struggle which is almost nearing its end – if you can summon the strength to keep going just a little bit further, you will emerge stronger. In short, you are stronger than you think you are!
  2. What is something wonderful I can anticipate in July? Empress: Great news! July is looking to be a month filled with creativity and abundance. This is a time to birth new ideas, projects, and unrestrained creation. The Empress often indicates that the time for your deepest desires, hopes and dreams for your future to manifest in the physical world is near. The Empress is a card of good fortune, and often indicates that the generosity and kindness that you have shown to others is now starting to come back to you. This is a card of many blessings: love, kindness and nurturing. This July, you can look forward to reaping the harvest of your seeds well planted. Enjoy this coming time of growth, creativity, and joyful abundance.
  3. What is something I can be grateful for as we welcome a new month? Five of Wands: I love it when a somewhat challenging card like the Five of Wands appears in a positive position because it’s an opportunity to flex your “positive thinking” muscle to find the good side of what many people consider to be a negative card. Five of Wands here encourages you to be grateful for your ability to resolve conflict and to create something fantastic out of chaos. As we move into a new month, be grateful for the freedom and flexibility that you enjoy in life, and remember that even at the times when you can’t quite see where you are going, you are not alone. Five of Wands also speaks to your ability to harness chaotic energy in a creative and effective way. The Five of Wands in this position could also be a reminder to be grateful for your discernment in recognizing when it is time to change the energy from destructive to constructive, or to express gratitude for opportunities to look for common ground and for ways to work cooperatively and collectively.

Please try and enjoy this spread as you transition into the new month. If you do, I’d love to see your spreads so feel free to leave it in the comments!

Weekly Tarot Card Reading For May 15 – 21, 2017

Hello! For this week’s reading I am using Tarot of the Cat People. This is a really fun deck that incorporates some pretty cool 80’s style art with a mystical, science-fiction backstory, and combines that with Tarot wisdom loosely based in the Rider-Waite tradition. I have had this deck for 20+ years, and I am still in awe of what a cat like personality this deck has.

All of our cards this week are from the suit of Swords. The suit of Swords corresponds to the elemental of Air and governs the realms of thought and the unseen. This week pay special attention to your thoughts and mental energy, and consider things from the intellectual perspective.

Monday/Tuesday: Three of Swords – As we start off the week take care not to allow any resentments you may be holding onto, or any heart ache you are currently experiencing, harden your heart and turn you away from love. This card is a reminder that when you close yourself off to love, by dwelling in lower, negative energies or choosing to harbor resentments, that the person you are hurting the most is actually yourself. Acknowledge any feelings of betrayal or hurt but then breathe deeply and return to the love energies that reside within you.

Wednesday/Thursday: Four of Swords – Now is a time to be gentle with yourself. As we move into a recovery from the harsher energies that were prevalent earlier in the week, now is a time for allowing your mind to be at ease. Four of Swords has appeared to tell you that you would benefit from taking a break. Let yourself have this time to regroup, recharge, and be at peace. Do not forget to have fun with it!  Imagine all that you wish to go forth and do in the future while remembering that you are here on Earth to love deeply and joyfully. This is not a time for taking action, but rather a time for relaxing the mind in order to achieve mental clarity.

Friday/Saturday/Sunday: Page of Swords – Did you have any insights or new ideas come to you during your mid-week period of rest? The Page of Swords brings the message to trust these ideas and asks that you use them to springboard you to your next steps. Often, following a period of self-reflection, like we had with the Four of Swords, we experience amazing revelations. Unfortunately, many of us are likely to dismiss them. The Page of Swords reminds you that because you are one with Spirit, your deep inner thoughts are divinely guided. Trust them. Good news is either here, or on it’s way to you. Soak it in before sharing your thoughts with the world in the most positive ways.

This week I encourage you to nurture your body as this will help you in fending off any draining mental energies you may be subjected to. You may find that your mind runs wildly this week – take care not to dive down any dark, mental rabbit holes – you will be better served this week to keep your thoughts positive, always returning to that place of love which resides within.

Knight of Air – Tarot Card of the Day

Knight of Air

Intelligent * Decisive * Idealistic * Tireless
“Events that occur with great speed. Take time to carefully review your options. Creative Solutions.”

When the Knight of Air shows up in your life it can feel like you just met your knight in shining armor.  The Knight of Air is highly intelligent and has the ability to quickly and carefully analyze his options in order to take immediate action. He is pure of heart and always looking out for others – especially those who are experiencing hard times, or those who have been marginalized by society. He holds true and fast to his ideals, always acts with integrity, and expects others around him to do the same. This knight has a kind heart and is quick to speak out on behalf of others.

The Knight of Air has the confidence to know that the light within him shines brightly, and he knows how to coax the light within others to shine brightly as well. Whenever the Knight of Air encounters a problem, he thinks outside the box to uncover a creative solution. When the Knight of Air appears it is an opportunity for you to identify any blocks that are appearing in your life. Sometimes the best way forward is not to move straight through the block. Enlist the energy of this knight to determine if you would be better off navigating around, over or even underneath whatever is blocking you. Remember that progress does not always mean moving in a straight line.

This card is from Angel Tarot Cards by Doreen Virtue and Radleigh Valentine. In this deck the suit of Air corresponds to the suit of Swords in traditional tarot. This is a beautiful deck that brings fanciful imagery featuring angels, fairies, unicorns and mermaids into the traditional 78 card tarot structure.

How does the Knight of Air present himself into your life? How can his energy help you in your daily life? I love hearing from you so please leave me a comment to let me know what you think!

My regular readers know I love working with the Radiant Rider-Waite* deck. When I feel called to work with the traditional Rider-Waite imagery, this is usually the deck I reach for. There are definitely a ton of this style of deck out there, and I have more than a few of them, but this particular deck is my “Old Faithful” of that genre.

Are you feeling the Knight of Pentacles energy today? What additional messages do you feel he is sharing with you today? What is your favorite deck that employs the traditional Rider-Waite imagery? I LOVE it when you share your perspective so please pop into the comments and let me know!

Don’t let anything deter you from taking action on your creative ideas today. When inspiration strikes follow through – only good things can come from doing so! Banish your fears and self doubt, and know that everything you need to make your ideas a success lies within you. Today, take inspired action and turn your dreams into your reality.

Today’s card is from the Radiant Rider-Waite Tarot Deck.* This is one of my favorite Rider-Waite style decks to use due to the vibrant coloring on each card. I definitely recommend this deck, but I think it is especially good for beginners as the images on the card will match the pictures found in most Tarot books, while the coloring on each card is more vibrant than in the traditional Rider-Waite deck.
