Today I am sharing this gorgeous polish I picked up in the January 2020 Polish Pickup. This is “Earth Dragon” from Soothing Soul Nail Lacquer. It’s a beautiful warm toned peachy gold metallic polish with subtle bronze flakes and has a slight bit of glass fleck to it.
If you are not familiar with polish pickup it’s basically a monthly sale where a ton of different indie polish makers get together and create various polishes around a common theme that are exclusive to each month’s sale. The sale runs the first weekend of each month, and the polishes get shipped out to you 2-4 weeks after the end of the sale. This is a great way to check out new brands, score some limited edition polishes, and purchase from a variety of makers for one low shipping fee. The theme for January was “Written In The Stars.”
As you can see, this is a beautiful polish. I love how soft and pretty it looks on the nail. I always enjoy colors like this that are neutral, but with a little something extra! This is my first time trying out this brand and I was impressed with their formula. This is one of those polishes that basically applies itself. It’s not overly thick or thin and was very easy to glide on. There was no running or pooling, and this polish did not stain my nails. My photos show this polish applied in 3 thin coats + glossy topcoat. I think if you work in thicker coats you could probably get this opaque in 2. Dry time is fairly quick though so I was not bothered to apply 3.
As is typical of polishes with this type of finish there are some visible brush strokes so you will want to be mindful of that when applying the final coat. However, the brush strokes are very slight and not bad at all compared to many other polishes with this sort of pearly metallic finish. This polish has a nice sheen to it and I’m glad to add a gold to my collection that while still beautiful is not overly blingy.
This brand uses a wide (but not too wide) flat brush which is my preference when it comes to polish application. I have been wearing this polish for 4 days now and have no chipping or cracking to report. I applied Zoya’s Gelie-cure as my foundation/basecoat because historically polishes with this finish tend to accentuate my prominent nail ridging. I’m wearing it with a top coat from Salon Perfect, and while it is a decent top coat I wouldn’t say it is particularly long-wearing, so I think that says a lot about the durability of the Soothing Soul Nail Lacquer formula.
I’m really happy that this color caught my eye and that I took a chance on a new brand and picked this one up!
